New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee has touched the figure of 250 wickets in Test cricket. He achieved this feat against Sri Lanka in the second Test match played at the P Sara Oval Cricket Ground in Colombo. New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 65 runs in this match to equalize 1–1 in the series. Sri Lanka defeated New Zealand by 6 wickets in the first Test match played in Gaul. Tim Southee took 2 wickets in the first innings of the Colombo Test and 4 wickets in the second innings.
Tim Southee has so far recorded 251 wickets in 125 innings of 67 Tests at an average of 29.90 and a strike rate of 3.02. He is the fourth most successful New Zealand bowler after Sir Richard Headley, Daniel Vettori and Trent Boult. Headley has recorded 431 Test wickets, Vettori has 361 Test wickets and Bolt has 254 Test wickets. Headley and Vettori have now retired. Tim Southee and Trent Boult have a chance to break these two records.
